Community Chaplaincy

Community chaplaincy is about meeting people where they’re at and making yourself available for prayer, encouragement, counsel, and discussion about life’s big questions.

You’ve probably heard of chaplains who work in the hospital or a fire department.

Community chaplains are doing a similar thing, only out and about in different parts of a community.

For me, community chaplaincy is about having a ministry of presence.

In my case, I’m making myself available at coffee shops, bars, protests, in the streets with the unhoused, and lots of other places.

To have a ministry of presence is also to be an advocate for the marginalized, and a peace builder in situations of hostility.
